Accurate manoeuvring

Rotortugs manoeuvring lever is about three times the length of an similar size ASD tug. Steering two-handed, the Rotortug master easily controls his position, heading and speed. Operating under angles inside the beam of the assisted vessel, the Rotortug always provides an effective pulling force.

Rotortugs deep drive arrangement prevents propeller ventilation, thrust deduction and loss of control associated with ASD tugs in high waves.

Partners about us

As a senior tug master & training master of Rotortug/ASD/ATD/VSP Rob has great experience. He consideres Rotortug a gamechanger in the tug industry.

“We can do amazing work with this tug which can’t be done by others, these sort of maneuvers, it’s unique!”

Vector control at narrow passages

Rotortugs can always provide a sustainable towline force independent of heading, sailing direction and speed. Operating within the beam of an assisted vessel when transiting a lock, or bridgehead. ASD – and tractor tugs can only pull in-line with their heading resulting in periods where the tug can’t provide an effective pulling force.

Partners about us

Marijn van Hoorn grew up in the world of tugboats. Years ago he started as a maritime pilot in the Port of Rotterdam and gained experience with all types of tugs.

You can work very precise with small margins between the ship. That is a great benefit of the Rotortug, compared to ASD or Tractor tugs.

Positioning in currents, without towline force

Rotortugs double-ended control ability, manoeuvring lever and limited underwater area make it very easy to manoeuvre and position itself in currents. Also when fire-fighting and with the fire-fighting pump engaged by the portside thruster, the Rotortug retains this capability.

COMPARE TUGS

Ship-handling in waves and swell

Rotortugs deep drive arrangement eliminates propeller ventilation when operating in waves and swell. Propeller ventilation reduces a tugs ability to maintain position, or accurately manoeuvre and establish a towline connection when in close proximity to offshore structures and other ships. Furthermore propeller ventilation reduces effective pull capability with thrust deduction up to 15%.
